Medical Dictionary

Palpitation : A palpitation is an awareness of the beating of the heart, whether it is too slow, too fast, irregular, or at its normal frequency.

Tachycardia: Tachycardia is a form of cardiac arrhythmia which refers to a rapid beating of the heart. By convention the term refers to heart rates greater than 100 beats per minute in the adult patient. Tachycardia may be a perfectly normal physiological response to stress. However, depending on the mechanism of the tachycardia and the health status of the patient, tachycardia may be harmful, and require medical treatment. In extreme cases, tachycardia can be life threatening.

Tachycardia can be harmful in three ways. Firstly, if the heart is pumping too fast for an extended period of time it will change the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the hemoglobin in the blood; this is normal during exercise but when resting this is quite dangerous. Second, when the heart beats too rapidly, it may pump blood less efficiently. Thirdly, the faster the heart beats, the more oxygen and nutrients the heart requires. This may leave patients feeling out of breath or cause angina. This can be especially problematic for patients suffering from ischemic heart disease.

You may ask, why am I writing these stuff on my blog. Well, I did some random reading on heart disorders out of curiosity (maybe not...Antonio Puerta died of a heart attack, and as a person who actively take part in sports, I should be more aware of my physical condition). Last week, I played badminton and then football with my brother and after awhile I can feel my heart pounding on my chest so I decided to rest after that. That was not my first "encounter" with such a condition, a happened a few times before (in the past few years) after games, so I thought that I should be more cautious. That's why I try to look for facts about the condition. Yup. Maybe one day I should get myself a medical screening. =)

"The Church should not be proclaiming herself but God...it is no accident that Jesus' words, 'the first shall be last and the last shall be first', occur more than once in the Gospel tradition. They are like a mirror constantly focused on us all."

- Pope Benedict XVI

Well, maybe I'll post something from my church bulletin again another time...

It's kinda weird...but I think I'm still in stiches. Moving on hasn't been easy.

Sometimes is just don't understand what is "trust" like, it feels as though I've lost all my courage. It's really hard to pick oneself up, from the discouragements, failures, disappointments, etc. Gotta face the reality. One day, probably (yep, "probably" is all I can say...there's no certainty), all these will pass us by. LOL ('',)

"Belief" by John Mayer

Is there anyone who ever remembers
changing their mind from the paint on a sign?,
is there anyone who really recalls
ever breaking rank at all
for something someone yelled real loud one time?
oh, everyone believes
in how they think it oughta be
oh, everyone believes
and they're not going easily

belief is a beautiful armor
but makes for the heaviest sword
like punching underwater
you never can hit who you're trying for
some lead the exhibition
and some have to know they tried
it's the chemical weapon
for the war that's raging on inside
oh, everyone believes
from emptiness to everything
oh, everyone believes
and no one's going quietly

we're never gonna win the world
we're never gonna stop the war
we're never gonna beat this
if belief is what we're fighting for

is there anyone you can remember
ever surrender with their life on the line?

what puts a hundred thousand children in the sand?
belief can, belief can
what puts a folded flag inside his mother's hand?
belief can, belief can

So many blog posts in one day...I don't usually do something like this...but you know, sometimes it's just a bit addictive... =)

This is what I found in my church bulletin and just wanna share it with you guys:

In his farewell discourse in John's gospel, Jesus tells his disciples something surprising and, to us, counter-intuitive: It is better for Jesus to leave his disciples than for him to stay physically with them. How can this be? Do we not long for the presence of Jesus? Our going on pilgrimage to the
Holy Land, for example, is nothing if not an attempt at getting close to the physical Jesus, the man who walked the streets of Galilee and Jerusalem 2000 years ago. Jesus however tells is that his departure from this world is a blessing: it prepares the way for the gift of the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, to be poured out on to the world. Only when Jesus leaves can we be given the full revelation of who God is: the Father, the source of all, the Son, who expresses the love of God, and finally the Spirit, the life of God that continues to be poured into us.

The mystery of the Trinity tells us that the One God whom we profess is a reality that exceeds all out notions and expectations, including the notion of what "One" might mean. Whatever we may understand of God through revelation is never exhaustive of God: we cannot comprehend God, for we can never hope to grasp the infinite.

The great doctor of the church,
St. Augustine, was pondering the doctrine of the Trinity while walking on a beach when he came across a child scooping up the ocean's water and emptying it into a hole in the sand. Augustine told the child that trying to empty the ocean was pointless, whereupon the child said to him, "No more pointless that you're trying to understand the Trinity." It is futile for us to endeavour to encompass the infinity of God within the confines of our limited human minds.

The mystery of the Trinity engenders in us a sense of humility regarding what we may know about God, about God's purpose and ways of engaging with the world, and about being human. It is a great temptation for any human community to think that it has grasped the whole truth about God, or God's purpose for the world, or what humans must do to be in right relationship with God. If we can back away from making such absolute claims (and we must, or we fall into a kind of idolatry that gives human reason and endeavour the absolute status that belongs to God alone), we can begin to appreciate the good to be found in ways of thinking, believing, praying, and sheer living that are not our own. Diversity then becomes not a threat to be feared or crushed, or even a fact to be merely tolerated; rather it will be seen as a gift for which we are to be grateful, for it is in our diversity that we can see the working of the Spirit, who blows where the Spirit wills.

Trial Exam

Finally the date of the exam is fixed (confirmed)...there were rumors saying that the exam might be brought forward...thank goodness it isn't. Haven't finished studying lah, that's the reason LOL =P. Will be having our General Paper (Pengajian Am) on the 3rd of September and the rest of the subjects will be around the 17th I guess. The clock is ever ticking and I get a bit nervous, and of course, I get stressed up too. Anyway, we are having a one-week school break, and I really hope I'll be using the time for studies (unlike now...I'm really good at wasting time) ;) Maybe some peeps are coming back from their colleges so probably can meet up with them also. Gavin's birthday is also coming leh. Hey Gav, if your looking at this, happy birthday! Just a few more hours to go and you will be "you-know-what" =) Cheers!

Handover

After a year, today is finally the day the ISCF is handing over the club to the new batch of committees. I could say that it is actually a relief for me. After a year of ups and downs (or izzit so? A bad start? And it ended worse? Could be, you know...), I can actually step aside and let the newly appointed leaders be "burdened" for awhile. The person who I am from the day I joined the CF in form 4 and the person that you see now everyday could be very different, in many ways. I can't say exactly whether it's a positive thingy or a not so positive thing. I cannot deny the fact that I've actually learnt a lot of things in this process, but I need to acknowledge that I've unlearnt certain things as well. Don't want to elaborate further on this though. What I wanted to say is that this is a process that goes on and on in life. Learning, unlearning and relearning. Well....although the handover is official, I still have some unfinished business with people or the CF. Soured ties. Unfilled documents. Gotta get these stuff done or else....

"Angel" by Jimi Hendrix

Sort of a love song from Jimi Hendrix, released in 1972 from the posthumous album The Cry of Love.

Angel came down from heaven yesterday
She stayed with me just long enough to rescue me,
And she told me a story yesterday,
About the sweet love between the moon and the deep blue sea.
And then she spread her wings, high over me,
She said she's going to come back tommorow.

And I said "Fly on my sweet angel,
Fly on through the sky,
Fly on my sweet angel,
Tomorrow I will be by your side"

Sure enough, this woman came unto me,
Silver wings silhouet against a childs sunrise,
And my angel, she said unto me,
"Today is the day, for you to rise.
Take my hand, you're gonna be my man, you're gonna rise."
And then she takes me high over yonder.

And I said, "Fly on my sweet angel,
Fly on through the sky,
Fly on my sweet angel,
Forever I will be by your side!"

Today went out almost the whole day... Woke up around 8 to attend my church mass. After that, I finally got a chance to meet up with Justin: he's back in Malaysia for his summer vacation. Long time didn't see him already le really... of course, we had breakfast together with Liang Hin, Kian Hin and also Alicia. As usual, I dunno what's wrong with me but I've a problem sitting together with leng luis =P lol. So quiet la during breakfast... After breakfast, myself and Justin went over to Liang Hin's place. Played with Ah Liang's MacBook. Kinda fun man... not used to the Mac OS interface only. Then Ah Liang went out and bought a clown fish...and err...a prawn? We messed up with Justy's Nintendo DS Lite while Justy was busy with some downloads. Then, we went for lunch in Sushi King around 3 o clock and finally Addie came and joined us. It's the first time I'm having a meal there...had never gone near the outlet before this... And when the leng lui is not around I feel more comfortable to speak up! Haha...we talked about ways to "swear" in a more polite manner...haha...we went on to have coffee at the Chatter's place and continued our discussion =) Kind of a nice day, really. Nowadays I seldom go out on weekends to hang out with people... One thing about me now is that I don't feel so well...haha...I think I have a problem with caffeine...LOL...must be the tea... =(

Dim Sum early in the morning rox!

Thursday, August 2, 2007

Bittersweet

What a day man...Yesterday night I didn't get to sleep well. Woke up a couple of times in the middle of the night. Of course that's not the highlight of the day. Kin Onn, Addie and myself had talked about having Dim Sum early in the morning before going to school. Well it finally happened =) Had to force myself to wake up around 5.20 in the morning. Then, Onn gave me a lift at 6.00. The streets were eerily empty. Usually I only go to school at 7 o clock, and the traffic condition is really bad, it takes me up to 10 minutes just to cross the road to the other side of Ipoh Garden, because of the congestion near the traffic lights and the construction site. It was a different story this time round coz we were able to reach town in less than 10 minutes. Cool. And the next thing we knew, we arrived at Foh San, but a bit too early. Not because the restaurant hadn't open, but our friend hadn't reached the place. Since it's still early, we didn't mind waiting a bit longer. And when he arrived, aww yea it's a yummy experience. Not forgetting to mention that it actually hurt our wallets, but it's okay =P

The last time the three of us sat together at that place was exactly a year ago, before attending Kean Yip's funeral. This gathering marks the 1st anniversary of the death of our friend, who died brutally in the hands of some crooks. In this case, justice is not served, because there aren't sufficient evidence to solve the case, which is kinda sad. Well, you'll always be in our memories... This incident is an example of what the society has become, so much of unrest. "Security"? Never heard of the word. Everyday when I glance through the papers, there are some murder/rape etc cases. It's like some never ending thingy, with fresh cases everyday. Reading the newspapers used to be my favorite pastime, now it's more like a nightmare. I look at the world and I am afraid of it. I don't feel safe to even step out of my own house sometimes. Really pray and hope that something can be done about it...
